All linens - sheets, towels - are provided.  You will find toilet paper and cleaning products in the house.  No food products or soap for personal use are provided.

Each house has a washing machine, steam iron and board. All the houses have heating devices: gas burners, electrical heaters, wood burning stoves or fireplaces with plenty of olive wood to keep you warm during the harshest Spanish winter. Sufficient hot water at all times. Tap water in all of Montefrio is not only drinkable by European standards but of excellent quality, coming from a deep well in the Sierra de Parapanda.

Each house is also equipped with the necessary cooking utensils and tableware.  The houses are cleaned prior to arrival, often on the same day in the morning, to avoid accumulations of dust (this is Spain!).

When reserving your cottage, give the date of arrival and the date of departure, and not the date of arrival and the date of the last full day of your stay. Example: 3 to 10 May means you arrive on the 3rd and leave by noon of the 10th.

Check in time is 4pm. If you would like to arrive earlier, you should call me the day before, and I will tell you if the house can be made ready for you in the morning. Check out time is 12 noon.

Late arrivals: you can arrive as late as you want, but if it's after 11pm you are asked to give a tip to the manager of 10-20 euros, depending on just how late. You should call me if you are going to be later than 10pm, because my manager will be waiting for you.

We do not demand that guests arrive on Saturday and leave on Saturday, as is traditional for self-catering houses.  The guests are not expected to clean the houses before departure, as is the rule in self-catering rentals.

I will e-mail you a form with the terms of your rental. In this form, you can order a copy of my books, if you wish to have them upon arrival at your cottage. You can pay, with your credit card, to my PayPal account.

Montefrio has a Tourist Office - Oficina de Turismo - with English-speaking receptionist (closed on Mondays and holidays).  In order to visit the castle, you should ask the person on duty at the office to send someone to open for you (there is no extra charge for this service above the 1 euro per person entrance fee).  The public health clinic "Centro de Salud" open round the clock.    There are 4 bank machines, 4 pay phones, numerous bars, restaurants and grocery stores, including two super markets, IBERPLUS and COVIRAN. Bars and restaurants have one closing day per week but are as a rule all open on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and shops are open from Monday to Friday and Saturday morning until 2.00 pm, with the exception of the two main supermarkets,  open on Saturday afternoon, from 4 or 5 to 8 or 9 pm, depending on the season of the year. All banks and public services are open from Monday to Friday, mornings only (from about 9 am to 2 pm).

There is an Internet rental in front of the Guardia Civil Station, and at the Magenta Computer Academy on the Calle del Muro, near the Plaza.  You can also use the computers at the public library, "la biblioteca", free of charge.

All shops and restaurants are closed on 25 April for a small local fiesta, Saint Mark's Day, and on Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

All shops are closed on 15 August for a big summertime fiesta, the Día de la Virgen (Assumption Day), but bars and restaurants remain open.   The fiesta goes from 13 to 17 August inclusive, with an open-air ball which can be noisy.  Since this ball starts at 11pm and ends at 6am, for 5 nights running, it might be a reason for some guests to prefer not to stay in Montefrio during those dates.  Of course, you can always join the dancing, or buy some ear plugs!
